At the start of 2005, I began a new project entitled ‘I Was Here’, which involves self-portraits without requiring my image to be visible. Instead, I show signs of my existence and a detail of my life. For example, on each picture one can see the date of the shot and my written thoughts.
Through this method I create a sense of space and time, and uncover stories in otherwise unspectacular moments. With time I began to skip the words “I Was Here” and concentrate on the essence of my feelings while shooting the picture. Thus, I display the hidden stories behind my everyday objects and situations. With each example I examine the nature of identity and truth by giving meaning to the scenario through my own representation. |
